Zhongguancun High and New Technology Sector Exceeds 1 Trillion Yuan in Revenue
The Zhongguancun Science Park maintained rapid growth in 2008, as evidenced by the fact that its high and new technology sector broke a total revenue of over 1 trillion yuan, realizing the goal set in the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan" two years ahead of schedule. The added value of its high and new technology sector reached 178.6 billion yuan, an increase of 13.8 percent year on year, according to information released at the 2009 Work Conference of the Zhongguancun Science Park.
Last year, a series of major innovation achievements made in Zhongguancun provided technological support for the national development strategy. For instance, the standard for Intelligent Grouping and Resource Sharing (IGRS) became the first international standard in the 3C's collaboration fields, while the standard for Unstructured Operation Markup Language (UOML) was recognized as the first international standard for China's software industry. In addition, the first light source system for high-definition digital laser projection machine in the world was developed there, and the national standard for digital television terrestrial transmission standard had already began to be adopted in Latin American market. Zhongguancun-based high and new technology enterprises filed a total of over 13,000 patent applications, an increase of 92 percent year on year.
For the whole year, a total of over 1,100 students who had studied abroad set up 510 enterprises in Zhongguancun. At the same time, some breakthroughs were made in the fields of investment and financing, industry organization as well as pilot reform of the credit system. Six enterprises in the park went public in 2008, bringing the total number of listed enterprises in the park to 112.
The park provided 3.62 billion yuan in loan guarantees to 340 enterprises in 2008 and issued 400 million yuan in credit loans to 43 enterprises. It also pushed forward an open lab program. To date, 36 labs at national level have already opened, providing a total of 3,000 tests and R&D services to 688 enterprises.
